“ Taste, savour and enjoy the gastronomic delights"

> Vineyards in Vendée | Local Products english version

Located on the hillsides overlooking the rivers Yon and Lay, the Mareuil vineyards cover 10 towns and a surface area of 300 hectares. Annual production is 17,000 hl.     Enjoying more sunshine than the national average, the chenin and chardonnay grape varieties produce fresh, light white wines, the pinot noir and gamay the very typical, fruity rosé wines, while the gamay, cabernet and négrette produce light red wines the most heady of which keep for several years.

Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health. Drink in moderation.

Some advice from the Chef
White wines
The driest of these wines can be drunk with all the delights of the sea such as shellfish, local oysters, shrimps, prawns, lobster and crayfish. The other white wines go marvellously well with mussels in cream or roast pork liver.

Red wines
They are perfect served with local specialities: beef stew, poulet noir or Challans duck and pig’s head with cabbage in cream.
Their unusual vitality also goes very well with local melon.

Rosé Wines
Full of the taste of local soil, these wines are the best accompaniment of many simple, traditional recipes such as Vendée ham served with white kidney beans, rabbit pâté, local sausages “à la boudine”, “fressure” (local meat stew), local sole, eels cooked in wine or salted buttery cooked cabbage, of course…
